Edinburgh April 2011
For April it was an excellent couple of days, no rain and “some” sunshine, but not too warm though.
We managed to get a decent deal with Hilton to stay in the Caledonian Hilton on Princess Street, which is very well situated for everything you need in Edinburgh. The hotel has that old style feel about it and the stained glass windows depicting the various Scottish regional flags add to it’s charachter.
Edinburgh has many nooks & crannies scattered about, with many offering excellent views of some part of the city. Having been to Edinburgh many times it was my first visit to the Castle and we couldn’t have picked a better day to do it, the weather was fantastic. From there we ambled down the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Abbey at which is worth visiting if the house isn’t up your street.
On our second day we just milled about, taking it easy on the feet after the previous day, and ended up on Calton Hill watching the firing of the guns in the afternoon before taking a trip over the Forth Bridge in the evening by train.
